The opportunity to work with brides and grooms on creating their dream design for their wedding day and reception is just one of the rewards of being an Event Planning team. While there is no doubt that brides often have a very specific vision in mind, the most meaningful part of our work for the couple is to help them discover ways to bring details to their design that truly reflect who they are which elevates the design and makes it truly their own.
Last August’s The Spirit of Love design is a great example of incorporating the design touches that the couple desired while ensuring the design elements layered together to provide a personal backdrop for the couple themselves. Although they did not have a clear vision of how their unusual combination of the groom’s desire for vintage accents and the bride’s desire to honour her aboriginal heritage in the décor elements would come together, they knew they wanted an elegant backdrop for their multi-venue wedding with a colour palette that included blush with custom cultural touches that included being married at a local sacred teepee site.
All of the customized touches created in house were key factors in developing the overall design story and ensured that the newlyweds’ love story was celebrated by the closest of family and friends in an atmosphere that blended this unique couple together. The result was a one-of-a-kind wedding design – a fusion of natural elements, vintage inspired details, touches of crystal for an understated elegance, custom indigenous inspired elements created by our design team and brought together with a soft, romantic colour palette of blush, champagne, ivory and silver with subtle hints of pale turquoise.
Accompanied by her father, the bride made her entrance down a wooded trail to the sound of traditional singing and drumming. The aisle itself was marked with bamboo stakes topped with small floral posies and champagne taffeta ribbons accented with glittered feathers which delicately blew in the wind – a traditional symbol which calls spirits to the sacred space.
The bride met her groom at the end of the aisle, where hand in hand, they entered the sacred teepee which had been draped in panels of vintage lace, soft white voile and accented with floral posies and taffeta ribbons.
Centred in the teepee was a stunning custom designed 3ft dreamcatcher fashioned with delicate ribbons and lace, fringe and feathers, and beads in soft shades of ivory, champagne and rose with crystal accents that sparkled in the sunlight.
Following the exchange of vows, guests made their way to the reception venue which carried over romantic vintage touches and cultural details.
A custom ceiling installment made of three dreamcatchers with beaded and crystal details provide a unique entrance for guests to enjoy. Centred underneath the chandeliers was soft seating with custom covers in vintage floral patterns anchored between side tables with floral posies and bowls of sage.
Billowy white voile draped the entire perimeter giving the ballroom a soft ethereal look while overhead a mixture of ivory and silver chandeliers with crystal drop details cast a romantic glow.
Round guest tables were covered in blush pinchwheel linen surrounded by gray covered seating with a diamond detail. Centred on the tables were fresh floral arrangements of blush, champagne and ivory hues and silver greens in round mercury vases. Place settings were anchored with a folded napkin to hold a custom program with a pale turquoise feather and mini dreamcatcher favour. Finishing the tables were antique table number frames and vintage blush votives which provided a soft flickering glow throughout the evening.
Behind the bride and groom was a voile backdrop with stunning feather drapes and another custom dreamcatcher. Uplit in a soft blush hue, the romantic backdrop was the perfect setting for photos.
So don’t hesitate to bring unique, seemingly unrelated elements into your wedding decor, it may just be the key to making your day extra special.
It certainly was for this couple’s design, which has since been nominated for a Canadian Special Event Award for Best Wedding Creative!
