There’s no question that when we are designing for a corporate client who wants to host a networking event that our approach to making the design serve their goals for the event are different than doing other types of events such as fundraisers and weddings.  That being said, there is a common thread that applies to all events – elevating the design with unique or personal details, however subtle, to create a connection between the hosts and their guests.

This too was the case when we were choosing the decor for a networking event in Fort MacKay.  Our brief was to transform a community centre into an intimate environment and highlight the corporate colours associated with the client’s logo – black and taupe.

The hall itself had impressive, soaring cedar ceilings and lots of windows overlooking a patio in the back.  In order to create the intimacy the clients were hoping for, we draped the space along the same lines of the all to just below the arch in the ceiling.  This created a cozy environment for guests and emphasized the beautiful architecture of the ceiling.

In order to create a warm welcome as guests and delgates made their way  into the hall, we situated a highboy table amongst four champagne covered benches and

topped the highboy with a stunning, natural feeling arrangement created by a local florist to give the entrance a sense of place and set the tone for the evening ahead.  The bench covers, done in a champagne pintuck taffeta were repeated in the fabrics of the entrance drapes and a small accent on the catering table to provide a sense of symmetry and continuum in the space.

A touch of soft seating did not impede guest sightlines to the stage area and they were paired with ebony side tables dotted with fresh florals in vases wrapped with braids and feathers.  To provide a chic touch to neutral highboy tables as well as tie in some custom teepees provided by the client, we created custom feather, bead and leather tiebacks that were a subtle but effective flourish.  To finish off the space, we added feather drapes to two sides of the black draping and uplit the drapes in a warm copper tone which added a beautiful glow to the space.
